New exterior design co-created by human designers and AI: Full-metal G-SHOCK equipped with memory-in-pixel (MIP) LCD
Published on 25 November 2025
The 5000 line carries on the evolution of the iconic design of the original G-SHOCK with a focus on both functions and materials, and this GMW-BZ5000 opens a new chapter in that evolution. It employs new methods of structural and exterior design co-created by human designers and AI, using shock-resistance data gathered over 40 years of G-SHOCK testing. The result is a transformation — an unprecedented design for a full-metal G-SHOCK.
For its face, the GMW-BZ5000 adopts a high-precision, high-contrast MIP LCD with a wide viewing angle that significantly enhances readability. The ability to display a variety of information with vivid clarity is a leap forward worthy of a multifunction watch that delivers solar-powered timekeeping with Bluetooth® and radio control accuracy.
A direct descendant of the original G-SHOCK, this timepiece also traverses new territory when it comes to toughness.

FEATURES
Carrying on the spirit of toughness: A whole-new full-metal shock-resistant structure
A new approach to design refines the conventional G-SHOCK structure, in which the bezel fully covered the center case. In the newly developed structure, the bezel and the center case are connected at the top and bottom, while an internal protector made of resilient resin temporarily deforms to absorb shocks, achieving a timepiece with a full-metal exterior that meets G-SHOCK shock-resistance standards.
The side view of intricately shaped, interlocking metal components, front screws that secure the bezel and center case, and other details come together to achieve an exterior look unlike any other G-SHOCK. While the front view, with the angular form of the original G-SHOCK, remains unchanged, this is a whole new style of full-metal G-SHOCK. To develop this new design, artificial intelligence was utilized for in-depth analysis and simulations based on years of shock-resistance data gathered from G-SHOCK testing, as well as for optimizing 3D modelling of individual components.
The GMW-BZ5000 features the same screw-lock case back as the very first G-SHOCK and employs the three-pronged lug band connection whose strength was proven in the GMW-B5000.

Metal processing technologies deliver intricately molded shapes
The exterior design of the first-ever G-SHOCK is faithfully reproduced in fine detail, from the combination of flat and curved surfaces to differences in height, grooves, depressions, and protrusions, even to the dimpled texture of the original band. The introduction of front screws allows the bezel dimples to be constructed as separate components, which also serve to connect the exterior parts.
The new bezel and center case design creates a unified overall form with intricate shapes, like lug holes and side notches, that interlock. The complexity of these components, many of which match with intricate counterparts, requires a high degree of precision. They require a great deal of time and effort in the manufacturing process, with forging, cutting, and polishing repeated dozens of times.
Additionally, each individual component is treated with separate hairline and mirror finishes to highlight the metal watch’s textural sophistication. The result is a commanding full-metal presence that conveys both strength and beauty.
MIP LCD breaks new ground in digital expression
The digital display employs a high-precision, high-contrast MIP LCD with a wide viewing angle. This enables more detailed rendering than conventional LCD displays, delivering outstanding readability even in bright outdoor spaces and direct sunlight. The newly developed MIP can be powered entirely by solar. The high-definition full-dot display, with memory embedded in each pixel, allows the user to switch between four TIME MODE displays with the touch of a button, and, via the app, to change the main display font from STANDARD to CLASSIC for a traditional 7-segment look.
Type A: Dual time display
Type B: Date + day
Type C: Year + date + day
Type D: Triple time display
Main Display Font: Standard
Main Display Font: Classic
Two-tone finish showcasing the new exterior structure
The new full-metal exterior is treated to a two-tone finish that highlights the precision interlocking of the bezel and center case. The two tones give the front and sides each a distinct appearance for an innovative new look.
Available in three colors: silver, black, and gold. The black and gold models are ion plated for excellent abrasion resistance. The beauty of a shimmering full-metal look, and its strength and hard texture, pair equally well with formal fashions and casual styles.
Made in Japan
Manufactured at Yamagata Casio, the plant that produced the first-ever G-SHOCK, this “Made in Japan” timepiece carries on the legacy of the original G-SHOCK.
