Taneichi: This endeavour is profoundly current. Given G-SHOCK's ardent fan base, expanding its reach by augmenting the brand's values is inevitable in this era. Therefore, it doesn't strike me as incongruous. What does this collection bring to the table?
– This range includes a denim ensemble, a sweatshirt outfit, and straightforward T-shirts. Every item employs CORDURA fabric.
neichi: What provoked the choice of CORDURA fabric?
– G-SHOCK PRODUCTS aims to propose lifestyle concepts. It's vital that, like G-SHOCK, our products can accommodate a diverse array of scenarios, including sports or outdoor pursuits, where G-SHOCK users are dynamic. In this context, we believe the robust and versatile CORDURA fabric aligns seamlessly.
Taneichi: While all the items are classic staples, the infusion of CORDURA fabric adds a playful dimension indicative of BEAMS. Despite their simplicity, the pieces boast a unique twist, which I find commendable. I've heard that G-SHOCK PRODUCTS are teeming with fascinating features.
– The denim jacket boasts a double-breasted, full-zip design for a versatile blouson/shirt look. Notably, it features sizable hand-warmer pockets. – G-SHOCK PRODUCTS aspires to design products that seamlessly integrate into people's lifestyles. Your social media illustrates your penchant for activities such as surfing and snowboarding. Do you believe these products can practically serve in these settings?
Taneichi: Absolutely. Typically, my day begins with donning a parka outfit and driving to the beach for some surfing. Post-surfing, I change into the clothes stashed in my bag and head out for lunch. Crafted from CORDURA material, these clothes can endure the sea breeze, withstand repeated washings, and don't crease easily when packed, all of which are desirable attributes.

Taneichi: I relish creating my work in locations I yearn to visit. For instance, when I desired to explore the Basque Country, I devised a project with individuals in Barcelona, which eventually facilitated my visit.

– Your fashion credentials include modeling for fashion magazines and designing clothes. Given your refined fashion sensibilities, could you critique these products?
Taneichi: When it comes to 'versatility,' simplicity triumphs. However, that could render fashion monotonous. That's where G-SHOCK PRODUCTS comes in, adding just the right amount of flair to classics to distinguish them.
– Even today, your casual attire radiates a fashionable atomosphere. Do you have any secret styling tips?
Taneichi: Being instantly identified as fashion-forward is rather unstylish, hence from a young age, I've strived not to be categorized as "someone from the fashion industry." While there are occasions where I aim for a stylish look depending on the time and place, I generally prefer to blend in. Given my stature, white beard, and glasses, I've got too many distinguishing elements, so I keep my attire simple and maintain a balance. It's crucial to understand yourself.
– Coordinated outfits seem to be a trend recently. What are your thoughts on them?
Taneichi: Likely influenced by foreign artists, celebrities, and media, men favor coordinated outfits for their ease. Plus, an attractive look is easily achieved by coordinating the top and bottom.
– Today, your outfit exhibits a relaxed silhouette. Do you have any tips or recommendations for mastering this effortless style?
Taneichi: Fashion is about personalizing a style that reflects your individuality. If you prefer larger sizes, go ahead. If standard sizes are your go-to, stick with them. It's unnecessary to be excessively trend-conscious. After all, oversized clothes don't suit everyone. Trying to pull off an unsuitable trend might result in an awkward look. There are many who effortlessly exude coolness by wearing just-the-right-size clothes without following trends.
– I see.
Taneichi: It's more important to select what complements you rather than blindly following trends. Paradoxically, it's also significant to inject a contemporary feel into your outfit. There are people who pull off vintage fashion brilliantly and others who seem out of sync with the times. The challenge lies in managing size proportions. It's a delicate balancing act, but I aim to infuse a modern vibe into my outfits by being size-conscious.
– Regarding sizes, you opted for different sizes for your hoodie's top and bottom, didn't you?
Taneichi: There's no rule stating that both top and bottom of a coordinated sweatshirt outfit must be the same size. So, for this black sweatshirt ensemble, I chose a large size for the top and an extra-large for the pants. I prefer my denim fitted, so an option could be a medium size for the bottom and an extra-large for the top. In such a case, I would likely opt for boots.
– Sneakers are generally the go-to choice with sweatshirt styles, but even leather shoes can pair well depending on the combination.
Taneichi: By managing the hem droop, it can even complement leather shoes.
– Thank you. One final query: last May, we released a ring that faithfully replicates the design of the DW-5600. Given this year marks G-SHOCK's 40th anniversary, we're planning to release a gold version. Could you please share your candid thoughts?
Taneichi: As I mentioned earlier, this item is likely to initiate conversations. The intricate craftsmanship on this ring is quite impressive. It's somewhat remarkable to see something so audacious crafted with such seriousness. No matter my age, I aspire to remain an adult who never loses touch with this playful spirit.
