The DW-5500C, the model that gave birth to the MASTER OF G series, was released in 1985 and featured a mud resist structure that covered the push buttons to improve dust and mud resistance, in addition to the basic G-SHOCK. The mud resist structure was later inherited by many other models, including the MUDMAN, and eventually became a symbolic feature of the "Land G" series, which was designed for use in the harshest field environments. The GWG-2000 is the latest model of the MUDMASTER, which was born in 2015 with an analog display, and has been reduced in size and weight by incorporating carbon materials throughout, while maintaining its excellent dust and mud resistance.
One of the key elements in the evolution of the MUDMASTER is forged carbon, a material used for the first time in a G-SHOCK. The GWG-2000 uses forged carbon in the bezel at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, connecting the watch body to the strap, a part that is easily damaged in a hard environment, to ensure the durability required of the Master of G.
Another element is the carbon core-guard structure, first used in the 2019 GRAVITYMASTER GWR-B1000 and since then used in many other models, making it the "core" shock-resistant structure of G-SHOCK. This not only protects the module, which is the heart of the watch, but also reduces the thickness of the case by 1.9mm compared to the previous model, the GWG-1000. The forged carbon bezel and carbon core guard structure also reduce the weight. GWG-2000 is also 13g lighter than the GWG-1000, making it more comfortable to wear. This is a great advantage not only as a tool watch for use in harsh conditions, but also for everyday wear.
The GWG-2000 also features an improved mud-resist structure, a symbol of the "Land G" series. The newly developed mud-resist button, which contains a silicon buffer material molded to fit the stainless-steel button pipe, not only improves dust and mud resistance, but also withstands long-term use. In addition, the GWG-2000 features knurling only on the button and crown at the 6 o'clock position for a stronger accent effect.
The MASTER OF G is the most powerful G-SHOCK series ever made, designed for extreme environments. The GWG-2000, however, is clearly designed to be worn also in town or in the field for leisure, making it a watch that fits in better with the lifestyle of the wearer. The resin straps of all three models in the new lineup have textures reminiscent of the grips of heavy machinery or checker plates, and this detailed design work also amplifies the appeal of the MASTER OF G, a watch with the highest level of toughness.
