Charlie Doves
1. Can you please introduce yourself briefly?
My name is Charlie Doves, I am a painter, visual illustrator, airbrush fashion design driven graffiti writer born and raised in Manhattan's Lower East Side. I make art to evoke emotion, whether it be nostalgic or a meaningful statement that sticks or even a negative conclusion, my work is for all to analyze, enjoy and hopefully leave an impact that is everlasting like the greats before me.
2. Can you briefly tell us about what you are working on and its purpose?
Pure Creativity and curiosity for the arts as a kid. Growing up in such a diverse art driven neighborhood such as the Lower east side, I was exposed to the power of Creativity and connecting with the community through art and how far it can take you.
3. What challenges have you faced, and how have you overcome them?
At times, I struggled with balancing originality and market expectations. I overcame this by refining my storytelling—focusing on why the design mattered and how it connected with people. Another challenge was handling setbacks, like production delays or creative blocks. Instead of forcing solutions, I learned to step back, reassess, and find inspiration in unexpected places. Not being afraid to step out of my comfort zone.
4. What inspired you to start this journey, and what drives your passion for it?
I make it a point to trust my instincts and embrace imperfection, not every line must be perfect. As a designer, it’s easy to get caught up in trends or external expectations, but I’ve learned that my best work comes listening to myself. I also value taking breaks to reconnect with my surroundings and quality time with my son, it helps me stay inspired and grounded.
5. Is there anything you prioritize or value deeply to stay true to yourself?
Making an impact through my art, sparking the next mind to dive into the arts and inspire the next generations forth going to create as much as possible. And they too can feel understood or inspired. Those moments remind me of the impact design can have on a personal level.
6. What are your aspirations or plans for the future?
My aspiration is to become a catalyst for inspiration across all generations. While my early focus was on empowering the youth—which remains vital—my growth has shown me a new frontier: re-igniting the creative spark in adults. It's as if life has drained them of the belief that they can still dream. My goal is to change that dynamic. I see a world where adults, who hold the resources, can reconnect with their imagination, and children, who are boundless dreamers, are given the tools to build. I plan to level that playing field, creating a world where no one is too old to dream and no one is too young to achieve.
